We celebrated Veteran's Day with a special program on November 11. We had a special guest speaker. Sergeant Fowler is the father of a Highland first grader. He has served our country in both Iraq and Afghanistan. He spoke to students during Highland Elementary's Veteran's Day Program. Also during the program, a small number of students read thank you letters they had written to veterans. We also enjoyed listening to several patriotic songs sung by Highland fifth graders. This was a very special day at Highland.
Here is our very own Julie reading the letter she wrote to the veterans:
On Tuesday, we had a visitor in our school who brought some "creepy and crawly" animals to show us. We learned all about snakes, lizards, salamanders, tarantulas, scorpions, beetles, and more.
Here's the science guy holding a tarantula and showing us on the big screen.
Here he is showing us the "slits" in a beetle. This is how the beetle breathes.
