Mrs. Morgan’s Newsletter
Week of November 8-14
Week of November 8-14
These are the skills we will be focusing on this week:
*We will be reading the story Whose Garden Is It? together and will focus on the comprehension skill realism (the story really could happen) and fantasy (the story is make-believe).
*We will practice writing, recognizing, and making the appropriate sounds for the following letter: Bb
*We will be able to read and spell the high-frequency words: he, for
*Our Amazing Words this week: garden, gardener, plant, seed, soil, blossoms
*We will begin discussing animal habitats, as well as living, non-living, and extinct.
*Math: We will continue number properties 0-20. Students will be orally counting, identifying numbers, counting objects, and writing numbers to 20; identifying numbers that are “one more than” and “one less than” another number (ex.: ___, 16; 12, ___); identifying missing numbers in a series of numbers (ex.: 16, ___, 18); and skip-counting by 10s to 100, by 5s to 100, and by 2s to 20.
*We will begin taking spelling tests each Friday. This Friday’s test will include the following words: he & for. In addition, your child will be asked to sound out and spell 4 words with a /b/ sound. These words will only use letters on which we have spent a week learning (b, m, t, a, s, p, i, c). For example, some possible words may be “bat”, “bit”, “tab”, “cab”, “bam”, etc.
News & Reminders:
*Thank you to all the parents who attended parent-teacher conferences this past week. I greatly appreciate your cooperation and support.
*I just added a lot of new pictures to our classroom blog, including pictures from the fire department visit, Kentucky Night, Jackson’s Orchard field trip, and the Halloween party. Be sure to check them out. Remember, it is a password protected blog. If you would like an invitation to view the blog, just send in your email address.
*Remember, when your child gets 10 stickers in his/her agenda book, he/she will need to let me know in order to choose an item out of the treasure box.
*I will have several parent volunteer opportunities in November and December. If you are interested in helping out and you have not yet filled out a volunteer background check, please let me know and I’ll get one to you ASAP.
Have a great week,
