Measuring Surface Area

Joey was trying to measure the surface area of a rectangle with tiles. However, he ran out of tiles! Our class was challenged to figure out how many tiles it would take to measure the surface area.  Some students figured out that they could continue the lines in the picture and others realized they could use cubes to measure the area. This took some major problem solving!
