Fire Safety Week!
The Glasgow Fire Department visited our class on Oct. 16. We learned all about fire safety. We got to see a firefighter dressed in his gear, learned about smoke alarms, made our way through the smoke house, and so much more! Thank you, Glasgow Fire Department!

Grandparents Day!

The Kindergarten classes celebrated Grandparents Day on October 1 at Highland. Thank you Mrs. Taylor (music teacher) and Mrs. Honeycutt (Family Resource Coordinator) for all of their hard work on this special day! The kindergartners sang four songs and then got to eat breakfast with their grandparents. Grandparents were invited to see the kindergarten classrooms at Highland after breakfast. Thank you to all the grandparents, parents, and other family members who came to support their kindergartners on this special day!

All four kindergarten classes singing "It's So Good To See You"
Izaac dancing along to the music.

The students and their grandparents (and other family members)...

Mammoth Cave Visit

A representative from Mammoth Cave visited our class on September 22 to teach us about the basic needs of animals. We got to play a game outside that helped us remember animals' basic needs.

Johnny Appleseed's Birthday

We celebrated Johnny Appleseed's Birthday by reading about him and then making and eating homemade applesauce. It was delicious! Donavin made sure he got every last drop off of it off his plate!

Dog Pound!
Each Friday our class gets to visit the Highland Dog Pound, coordinated by Mrs. Becky Honeycutt (Family Resource Director). We earn points throughout the week for our good behavior. We lose points when we pull sticks for breaking the rules. When reach 30 points, we are a "Big Dog" and we get to choose an item from the Dog Pound. Students can choose from toys, snacks, clothing, books, and shoes. If we earn 25-29 points, we are "Lil' Pups" and we get to choose from smaller prizes, like pencils, candy, and small toys. We LOVE visiting the Dog Pound! Here we are on Friday, September 11 showing off our Dog Pound prizes!

Germbusters!
On Friday, September 4, we had a guest speaker who taught our class all about germs and how to keep them away. Here we are learning how to properly wash our hands.

Next we rubbed a special lotion on our hands that had pretend germs. We then washed our hands just like we had learned. Our guest speaker put our hands under a blacklight to see if we washed our hands like we were supposed to. If we didn't, the special lotion would show up as white spots on our hands. Most of us did a fantastic job!

Here we are rubbing in the lotion.
