Mrs. Morgan's Birthday

My reading class surprised me with a birthday wish last Wednesday (March 23). Thank you so much to a very sweet group of kids!

( Their sign says "Happy Birthday, Mrs. Morgan!" and they all signed it.)

Dog Pound

After we celebrated Miles' birthday, we made our weekly trip to the Highland Dog Pound. This week was an extra special week because we had NO Sad Pups! That is awesome! Here are some of our Big Dogs trying to make their selections. Thank you, Mrs. Honeycutt, for always keeping our Dog Pound stocked with great treats.

Happy Birthday, Miles!

We celebrated Miles' 6th birthday today, March 25! Here we are singing "Happy Birthday" to Miles. His mom even brought in cupcakes to celebrate.

Officer Eaton and Zach the Police Dog

Mrs. Ritter, a WKU student completing an internship in our classroom, brought a guest speaker to visit our classroom. Her cousin is Kentucky State Trooper, B.J. Eaton. He is a K-9 officer, and he brought his police dog, Zach. Meeting Officer Eaton and Zach was so neat for us!
Officer Eaton began by discussing rules and laws.

We finally got to meet Zach...
Officer Eaton had Miss Ritter hide a small rag in our room that had the same odor as drugs. As soon as Zach came in to the room, he went straight towards the scent of the rag and found it hidden in our Clifford books. Good job, Zach!
Zach was fixated on the scent of the rag until Officer Eaton gave him his reward...a little blue ball that he LOVES!

Zach just found Officer Eaton's keys. He had thrown them outside in the grass when Zach wasn't looking.
We got to peek inside the police car to see where Zach sits.

Officer Eaton showed us how to turn on his lights and pointed out other things inside his car.
Shelvie poses with Zach in the background.

Officer Eaton had some bad luck at the end of his visit. His car started smoking! We thought it might be a good idea to write the Kentucky State Police and try to persuade them to give him a new car!

Abe and Mary Todd Lincoln Visit Highland!

Living historians, dressed as Abraham and Mary Todd Lincoln, visited Highland on March 1 to teach us about the 16th U.S. president. In class, we had been learning about presidents, including Lincoln.
