Reading Groups

Here we are, hard at work, in our reading groups today. We do reading groups each morning and the groups consist of many different kinds of activities in addition to working with Mrs. Morgan and Mrs. Wyatt.

Kenzie practices spelling her name in the "Refrigerator Words" station.

Amelia dives into a good book at the library station.

Mason (above) and Patricia (below) finished their desk work early so they used their time wisely to read books at their desks.

Gracie, Valeria, and Mason are playing Reading Eggs at the computer station.

Landon reads a book with the Leap Frog Tag Reading System at the Leap Frog station.

Natasha and Dominick play Reading Eggs.

This week in reading, we will be comparing and contrasting 3 different versions of The Three Little Pigs. Here are some links to You Tube videos to just a few of the many versions of The Three Little Pigs. When watching these at home with your child, be sure to discuss the characters, setting, main idea, and sequence. Talk about what is the same in each video and what is different.

Grandparent's Day

Highland Kindergartners celebrated Grandparent's Day on Friday, September 9. We sang some songs, enjoyed cookies with our grandparents, and then invited them back to our class for a small Grandparent's Day gift. Thank you, Mrs. Taylor and Mrs. Honeycutt, for organizing this great event!

September 11 Tribute

On Friday, September 9, our school planted a weeping cherry tree in front of the school in memory of the tragedies on September 11, 2001. The students had a penny drive in order to raise funds to purchase the tree and a plaque that will be placed beside the tree. The whole student body got to watch the tree being planted. Mason from our class even got to help shovel dirt.

Mrs. Wyatt sang a patriotic song with Mrs. Taylor and Mr. Ball. The whole school sang along.

Our principal, Mrs. Flowers, addresses the Highland students.
